2 Mar – Munnik Laas – Positive break-in. Intruders entered a home, targeting a resident and her adult son. The suspects, dressed in dark clothing, entered through a small side window and proceeded to restrain both victims while ransacking the house. Various valuables, including electronics, jewellery, clothing, and a vehicle, were stolen.

The suspects remained in the home for over two hours before fleeing, instructing the victims to remain still. Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported. A case has been opened with SAPS.

26 Feb – A known trespasser was arrested for the second time after being found on a property in Roy De Vries, after attempting to approach children.

– Welgelegen 1,2,3

21 Feb – At approximately 10:00 AM, it was discovered that a vehicle parked behind secured gates in General Chris Muller Street had been broken into. The vehicle’s window was shattered, but no items were reported stolen.

At around 6:00 AM, the dogs on the property were observed growling briefly but quieted after a few seconds. This may indicate the approximate time of the incident.

25 Feb – Van Nierop Street: Two men entered a property and pulled back the curtain, only to be met by the resident. They then disappeared at 1:40 AM.

26 Feb – Once Uitzicht: Two men attempted to steal a camera from a resident’s property.

26 Feb – Van Nierop Street: Attempted break-in. Lights and lightbulbs were removed, two solar lights were stolen, and security lights were tampered with. They tried to gain access but were likely stopped by alarm sensors.

26 Feb – 16 Sering Street: Positive theft. No entry. At 2:30 AM, the resident was alerted by barking dogs and got up to check. Two thieves—a tall, light-skinned, skinny man and a shorter, darker man—used a stick and pole to maneuver a laptop closer to the window and steal it. They ran and jumped over the wall on Sering Street into the park. The resident chased after them but realized they could be armed. Laptop stolen.

27 Feb – A resident fell victim to remote jamming at Vida Café around 9:15 AM. Work laptop bag stolen.

28 Feb – Diaz Street: Attempted break-in. The alarm was triggered, and the thief ran.

16 Feb – Olienhout Avenue: A home was broken into at approximately 11pm. A case was opened with SAPS, and camera footage was obtained from a neighbour. Following an eyewitness report of the suspect attempting to break into another property, a potential suspect was arrested.

21 Feb – Ceres Street
Positive break-in without entry. A window pane was removed from an aluminum frame, but the solid bars were not removed. A long stick was used to pull two cell phones closer to the open window from the counter. CCTV footage shows two individuals entering the property between 01:30 and 02:00.
Case opened.

21 Feb – Eben Donges Street
Positive break-in without entry. The thieves appeared to have entered from a neighbour’s wall. A large back lounge window was removed, and the TV positioned near the window was stolen without entry into the house. The TV was in a blind spot of the armed alarm system.

The window pane and TV were stolen. No CCTV footage captures a clear front view of the property. Case opened.

10 Feb – 04h30 Ysterhout – 2 men were caught on camera crawling in the resident’s backyard. AR company responded.

– Welgelegen 1,2,3

14 Feb – around 2h00 walljumper entered property in Sarel Haasbroek. DW was alerted. Caught by DW and collected by SAPS.

12 Feb – Positive Break-in, Van Nierop Street. Property entry occurred between 3:30 and 4:45 AM. Suspect(s) gained access over the wall.
A glass pane was removed from an aluminium frame, and aluminium burglar bars were taken off. The residents were asleep at the time. Two mobile phones were stolen. A case has been opened.

4 February – Positive break-in in Goudini Street. The incident occurred when suspects gained entry by climbing over the precast wall at the back, utilizing chairs found on both sides of the wall.
 
Key details of the incident are as follows:
•Entry was gained by removing the glass panel of a door.
•Items stolen include two laptops, memory cards, a wallet, and a handbag containing an identity card, a plane ticket, and other personal belongings.
•Unusual details include frozen meat being taken out of the freezer but left on the floor. Juice was also removed from the fridge and found outside.
•Despite access to the garage, no electrical tools were stolen. Car keys and remotes left in the kitchen were not taken.
•An attempt was made to use the client’s bank cards, but they had already been blocked.

4 Feb – Eben Donges Street – Attempted break-in. The resident heard a noise, and upon inspection, saw that the thieves had attempted to remove a window—the only one without bars. She came face-to-face with them, and they bolted. Resident unharmed.
 
4 Feb – Constantia Street – Wall jumpers active in the area. Three male suspects were seen jumping from house to house and into Alk Van Zyl Street at approximately 3:00 AM.
 
4 Feb – Corner of Charles Stassen & Hennie Winterbach – Two Bravo males attempted to rob a domestic worker. She threw her bag over a wall, and they fled. The suspects were dressed in dark clothing and carrying backpacks.
 
7 Feb – Van Nierop Street – Wall jumpers spotted on a resident’s property. They ran off when noticed. Incident occurred in the early morning hours.
 
7 Feb – Hennie Webber Street & Ceres Street – A resident saw someone jumping walls in the early morning hours.
 
7 Feb – Uys Krige Drive – Confirmed break-in. At 03:05 AM, criminals gained access to the backyard by climbing over the wall from the President Swart side. They forced open a sliding door and stole a TV and a wallet containing bank cards. The resident only woke up when the bank’s fraud division called to inform him that his card had been tapped seven times for a total of R460, with the eighth attempt being blocked. The suspects exited by stacking chairs against the wall.
 
The LPR team has identified a possible vehicle involved. A case has been opened, and SAPS, along with PWP, is conducting further investigations.

Incident Reports:
24 January – Two pedestrians were struck by a delivery bike at the corner of Gert Van Rooyen and La Provence Road.
25 January – A car battery and radio were stolen from a vehicle overnight on La Provence.

An expensive mat was stolen from under the safety gate. The crime was caught on camera, but the suspect disappeared.

31 January – Constantia Street
A positive break-in occurred. The burglars gained access at 1:28 AM by jumping over the front wall and entering through the front window after bending the bars open and removing a window. They rummaged through a bedroom, kitchen, lounge, and study before leaving at 2:54 AM via the same window.
Stolen items: Laptops, a TV, jewelry, and various small valuables.
Residents: Unharmed.
Camera footage: Shows two unidentified individuals.

A case has been opened, and security has been increased.

Clean-Up Operation (2019-06-21)

On Friday (21 June 2019) PWP Neighbourhood Watch patrollers got together ONCE AGAIN with Solid Waste Management and Law Enforcement for a clean-up operation on Plattekloof road and surrounds.

Within TWO WEEKS, human feces, rotting food, bags of wet clothes and piles of rubbish were once again piled up all over the place.

We have begged and pleaded on blended knees for members of our community to please work with us and we’ve now come to the realisation that nobody is listening, because nobody sees the situation for what it really is.

Disappointment aside, let’s try once more, because the minute we give up and stop cleaning up the disgusting mess that poses such a huge health and safety issue for every single person living in this area – that is the minute we are handing our life blood over on a silver platter. We also offered help to these street people, but they don’t want help, because they are getting enough from the community.

So residents, can we please ask that you let us know who can join us on a clean-up operation, so that you can see what is happening in your area. We will organize with Solid Waste (5 July 2019) in order to get rid of the excrement and other health hazards currently lying rotting in our area.

If you don’t want to dirty your hands, then please stop giving to each and every vagrant knocking on your door for help. Our patrollers must dirty their hands because of the ignorance of the community. Give to the shelters where the Winter Readiness Program is ready to help take these vagrants off the streets and into warm and safe spaces this winter. The ONLY vagrant who does NOT want to go into a shelter is the vagrant who wants to carry on using drugs, carry on drinking and refuses to comply with social norms.

THAT is unfortunately what you are supporting.

There are things in place to help the homeless and we need to get them to those places, so that the system can kick in and start helping them. Please don’t be the person who is busy condemning them to a life of vagrancy because of some misguided notion that you are making a difference.

BE the difference you want to see in this world by supporting the shelters who aim to uplift and not keep them down like your handout will.

Hand up at all times please – not handout.

Success! 3 Suspects arrested

MASSIVE SUCCESS!

Last night (2019-06-16) around 18:00, a white Opel Corsa bakkie was used in an armed robbery in Genl. Ben Viljoen St, Welgelegen. The suspect vehicle blocked the victims in, as they were driving up the driveway. Luckily no one was injured and only small items were taken.

After intense investigation by our volunteer patrollers, the suspect vehicle’s registration number was identified via advanced technology available to us.
The suspect vehicle was then loaded on the system.

Less than 24 hours after the incident, the suspect vehicle was pulled over by unmarked and SAPS Flying Squad vehicles. Further investigation found that the bakkie was hijacked earlier this year and the suspects just changed the plates. A firearm was also found in the vehicle. 3 Suspects were arrested!

Well done all involved.
