Easter Surprises

On Wednesday morning, our patrollers collected 10 full blue bags of clothing and waste from the area above Plattekloof Road, where a regular group of vagrants are often seen staying at night. Despite efforts to locate them to assist with the clean-up, the team pushed ahead and transported the collected waste to the dumpsite.
We extend a huge thank you to our dedicated Wednesday morning patrollers for their ongoing hard work and commitment. Your efforts do not go unnoticed!
This also serves as a stark reminder to those who continue to support the vagrants frequenting the Plattekloof Shopping Centre area โ much of the rubbish and mess ends up in our open spaces, creating an ongoing and difficult battle for our patrollers to manage week after week.
Letโs work together to keep our community clean and safe.

Last nightโs standard patrol turned into something truly special โ 24 volunteer patrollers showed up last night, making it one of our biggest turnouts in recent memory!
We were also joined by the Armed Response teams from District Group and Zonewatch Security, whose growing involvement has become a vital part of our efforts.
Itโs incredibly encouraging to see our numbers rising โ not just because we all care deeply about keeping our neighbourhood safe, but also because weโre seeing real friendships and connections forming among our regular patrollers.
It must be said that thereโs real strength in numbers and as our team of dedicated residents grows, so does our confidence in the strong partnerships weโre building. Over the past few months, the presence of the armed response companies has been both reassuring and empowering, and weโre grateful to be working side-by-side with them more and more.
Safety, connection, and community โ thatโs what itโs all about.
Hereโs to keeping the momentum going and welcoming even more new faces in the weeks to come!
If you’re interested in joining for a guest patrol to find out what we do, please pop us a message.
Alternatively, you can sign up to join us as a patroller here ๐

Here are a few moments from our recent patrols this past week. A huge thank you to every patroller who gave their time to help keep our neighbourhood safe and visible.
We also want to extend our appreciation to the armed response companies who joined and assisted us during our standard patrols. It’s always great building stronger working relationships with the teams on the groundโit makes a real difference.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us last night for our AGM and Community Meeting. Your presence and involvement are what make our community stronger!
A special thanks to our guest speakers from Parow CPF and SAPSโwe truly appreciate your time and insights. We look forward to building a stronger relationship with the CPF and continuing to strengthen our collaboration with SAPS and the armed response companies we rely on daily.
To our dedicated patrollersโyour selfless commitment, time, and fuel spent keeping our community safe do not go unnoticed. You are the backbone of our Neighbourhood Watch, and we are incredibly grateful!
We also want to extend a sincere thank you to the representatives from Zonewatch, District Watch, Swart Security, and ADT for attending and for everything you do alongside us daily. Your continued support, quick response times, and dedication to community safety make a huge difference, and we deeply appreciate it!
A big thank you as well to Jaco Naude and Fred Van der Schaar for their service on the committee. We wish them well as they step down and warmly welcome Lee-Anne Puttock to the team!
Last but by no means least, we also appreciate the community members who showed interest in joining us. Your involvement is crucial as we continue working towards a safer, more united neighbourhood.
There is still much to do, but we are proud of what we have accomplished and the incredible team behind it. Hereโs to a safer and stronger PWP!
This past weekend, a dedicated group of residents and City of Cape Town departments came together for an extensive cleanup operation, spearheaded by Riana De Wet and Paul Kruger. Over the course of two days, they removed a staggering three truckloads of waste, cleared hazardous materialsโincluding knivesโand once again witnessed firsthand the reality of the vagrancy issue in our neighbourhood.
With the assistance of a large Social Development team, every individual encountered was offered support, a place of safety, and the opportunity to turn their lives aroundโbut not a single person accepted the help. Instead, these individuals choose to remain in our area because they are supported by well-meaning residents who continue to provide them with clothing, food, and other resources directly. Unfortunately, much of this generosity goes to wasteโevidenced by the black bags of discarded clothes found abandoned in stormwater drains.
This is why we urge residents to stop handing out clothing and food directlyโinstead, please donate to registered shelters and organizations where those who truly want to rebuild their lives can receive structured support.
Despite the massive effort, some vagrants returned within hours, bringing back even more belongings. This reinforces why ongoing community involvement is essential. The Cityโs Law Enforcement Displaced Persons Unit (LE DPU), Solid Waste, and Social Development teams are working tirelessly, but without the support of residents choosing to donate responsibly, these problems will persist.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributedโwhether through hard labour , donating sandwiches, juice, or snacks for the EPW workers, or simply standing alongside us in this mission. Thank you to Goodwood Ratepayers and their cleanup team for joining us as well and learning from our operations.

On Friday (21 June 2019) PWP Neighbourhood Watch patrollers got together ONCE AGAIN with Solid Waste Management and Law Enforcement for a clean-up operation on Plattekloof road and surrounds.
Within TWO WEEKS, human feces, rotting food, bags of wet clothes and piles of rubbish were once again piled up all over the place.
We have begged and pleaded on blended knees for members of our community to please work with us and weโve now come to the realisation that nobody is listening, because nobody sees the situation for what it really is.
Disappointment aside, letโs try once more, because the minute we give up and stop cleaning up the disgusting mess that poses such a huge health and safety issue for every single person living in this area โ that is the minute we are handing our life blood over on a silver platter. We also offered help to these street people, but they don’t want help, because they are getting enough from the community.
So residents, can we please ask that you let us know who can join us on a clean-up operation, so that you can see what is happening in your area. We will organize with Solid Waste (5 July 2019) in order to get rid of the excrement and other health hazards currently lying rotting in our area.
If you don’t want to dirty your hands, then please stop giving to each and every vagrant knocking on your door for help. Our patrollers must dirty their hands because of the ignorance of the community. Give to the shelters where the Winter Readiness Program is ready to help take these vagrants off the streets and into warm and safe spaces this winter. The ONLY vagrant who does NOT want to go into a shelter is the vagrant who wants to carry on using drugs, carry on drinking and refuses to comply with social norms.
THAT is unfortunately what you are supporting.
There are things in place to help the homeless and we need to get them to those places, so that the system can kick in and start helping them. Please donโt be the person who is busy condemning them to a life of vagrancy because of some misguided notion that you are making a difference.
BE the difference you want to see in this world by supporting the shelters who aim to uplift and not keep them down like your handout will.
Hand up at all times please โ not handout.
So please help by:
? Donating to ELIM NIGHT SHELTER, ABSA Cheque โ N1 City – 4058656388
? Dropping off clothes and food to ELIM โ 47 3rd Avenue, Elsies River Industrial.
Lets stand strong because you are literally the only thing stopping our beautiful area from falling into decay.
Thank you for the cool drinks sponsored by THE SLIDING DOOR SPECIALIST for all the workers of solid waste. They really appreciate it and are going the extra mile for us. We urge anyone that can help with a donation (food or drinks) to make contact with Paul Kruger on 0790329193. These clean ups will be held every second Friday and will appreciate any donations! Together we can make a difference.

MASSIVE SUCCESS!
Last night (2019-06-16) around 18:00, a white Opel Corsa bakkie was used in an armed robbery in Genl. Ben Viljoen St, Welgelegen. The suspect vehicle blocked the victims in, as they were driving up the driveway. Luckily no one was injured and only small items were taken.
After intense investigation by our volunteer patrollers, the suspect vehicleโs registration number was identified via advanced technology available to us.
The suspect vehicle was then loaded on the system.
Less than 24 hours after the incident, the suspect vehicle was pulled over by unmarked and SAPS Flying Squad vehicles. Further investigation found that the bakkie was hijacked earlier this year and the suspects just changed the plates. A firearm was also found in the vehicle. 3 Suspects were arrested!
Well done all involved.

Article by Tygerdal & Glenwood Neighbourhood Watch:
“We could moan again about the disgusting mess we had to clean up on Saturday but we realised that like politics, we are allowing the negative to overshadow the positive…. so this post is about celebrating the Heroes who walk amongst us!
? HEROES 1: DPU (Displacement People Unit)
These men and women, led by the ever amazing Wayne Aldridge, are working tirelessly with the Neighbourhood Watches and the communities. Yet they get it from all sides… from the community who just dont understand what they are doing and how much they are helping… and they get it again for not doing enough. Instead of criticizing and lambasting this amazing unit it really needs to be said that we see their hard work and the way they are trying to sort out the vagrant issue AND WE ARE IN AWE! Thank you.
? HEROES 2: LE (Law Enforcement)
These people enforce the bylaws and vagrancy is a huge part of their mandate. There are so many laws and relations and policies and instructions that these people are walking a tight rope every day while they try and execute their duties. Yet they are ever helpful and diligent when they join us on these cleanup operations. With the DPU they are following a strict plan to eventually get to our ultimate goal – a definite and working solution to the vagrant issue. Huge thank you to them for working side by side with us and the community.
? HEROES 3: WASTE MANAGEMENT
These unsung heroes are the ones who have to clean up after these vagrants. It must also be said that they are the ones who have to clean up the misguided “generosity” of the public. Its them who have to pick up the clothes used as toilet paper.. its them who have to pick up the rotting food these vagrants just discard…. and its them who clean up the mistakes we make when we THINK we are helping. They truly are the keepers of all our embarrassing secrets and bad habits. May you guys be blessed many times over for your contribution to our wellbeing.
? HEROES 4: PRASA
They are the new kids on the block with these OPS and thanks to them we are able to finally clear up the mess these vagrants cause all along the railway line. This new partnership has proven to be invaluable to everybody in getting to a clean and safer neighbourhood.
? HERO 5: Chris Faure from Engen Garage
Every single second Saturday this Community Hero donates out of his own pocket 20 coffees to give that extra vuma to all these people needed to make these OPS a success…. we bow to you Chris for your amazing generosity.
? HEROES 6: Donations
Hiding amongst these people are men and women who get up at 5 to make much needed sandwiches for all the hardworking people involved. All out of their own pockets and all because they believe these Heroes deserve any thanks we can give them.
? HEROES 7: NHW
Pulling up their sleeves and digging around in the dirt helping you will find PWP Neighbourhood Watch, Monte Vista Neighbourhood Watch and Tygerdal Neighbourhood Watch who refuse to sit and moan and wait for others to help… these Patrollers do what is needed even if it means cleaning up the mess well intentioned residents cause.
? HERO 8: PRIVATE HEROES
A private company called SKIPGO joining us just because they want to help! How incredible is that! And the amazing Security from N1 City, Kobus Palvie who will do anything to help keep his clients who use the railway safe! True dedication!
? HERO 9: Riana de Wet
This firebrand from Monte Vista Ratepayers Association manages to pull together these OPS every second week. She is the organizer extraordinaire who is literally the cog turning the wheel towards a successful conclusion. Riana you remain our Queen Bee and we salute you for never giving up your tireless work.
So did you know it took all these heroes to clean up after Residents who literally dont realise the damage they are doing?
Please help us in being a Hero as well!
Please give responsibly.
? HAND UP AND NOT HAND OUT! ??”
