“We could moan again about the disgusting mess we had to clean up on Saturday but we realised that like politics, we are allowing the negative to overshadow the positive…. so this post is about celebrating the Heroes who walk amongst us!

? HEROES 1: DPU (Displacement People Unit)
These men and women, led by the ever amazing Wayne Aldridge, are working tirelessly with the Neighbourhood Watches and the communities. Yet they get it from all sides… from the community who just dont understand what they are doing and how much they are helping… and they get it again for not doing enough. Instead of criticizing and lambasting this amazing unit it really needs to be said that we see their hard work and the way they are trying to sort out the vagrant issue AND WE ARE IN AWE! Thank you.

? HEROES 2: LE (Law Enforcement)
These people enforce the bylaws and vagrancy is a huge part of their mandate. There are so many laws and relations and policies and instructions that these people are walking a tight rope every day while they try and execute their duties. Yet they are ever helpful and diligent when they join us on these cleanup operations. With the DPU they are following a strict plan to eventually get to our ultimate goal – a definite and working solution to the vagrant issue. Huge thank you to them for working side by side with us and the community.

? HEROES 3: WASTE MANAGEMENT
These unsung heroes are the ones who have to clean up after these vagrants. It must also be said that they are the ones who have to clean up the misguided “generosity” of the public. Its them who have to pick up the clothes used as toilet paper.. its them who have to pick up the rotting food these vagrants just discard…. and its them who clean up the mistakes we make when we THINK we are helping. They truly are the keepers of all our embarrassing secrets and bad habits. May you guys be blessed many times over for your contribution to our wellbeing.

? HEROES 4: PRASA
They are the new kids on the block with these OPS and thanks to them we are able to finally clear up the mess these vagrants cause all along the railway line. This new partnership has proven to be invaluable to everybody in getting to a clean and safer neighbourhood.

? HERO 5: Chris Faure from Engen Garage
Every single second Saturday this Community Hero donates out of his own pocket 20 coffees to give that extra vuma to all these people needed to make these OPS a success…. we bow to you Chris for your amazing generosity.

? HEROES 6: Donations
Hiding amongst these people are men and women who get up at 5 to make much needed sandwiches for all the hardworking people involved. All out of their own pockets and all because they believe these Heroes deserve any thanks we can give them.

? HEROES 7: NHW
Pulling up their sleeves and digging around in the dirt helping you will find PWP Neighbourhood Watch, Monte Vista Neighbourhood Watch and Tygerdal Neighbourhood Watch who refuse to sit and moan and wait for others to help… these Patrollers do what is needed even if it means cleaning up the mess well intentioned residents cause.

? HERO 8: PRIVATE HEROES
A private company called SKIPGO joining us just because they want to help! How incredible is that! And the amazing Security from N1 City, Kobus Palvie who will do anything to help keep his clients who use the railway safe! True dedication!

? HERO 9: Riana de Wet
This firebrand from Monte Vista Ratepayers Association manages to pull together these OPS every second week. She is the organizer extraordinaire who is literally the cog turning the wheel towards a successful conclusion. Riana you remain our Queen Bee and we salute you for never giving up your tireless work.

So did you know it took all these heroes to clean up after Residents who literally dont realise the damage they are doing?

Clean-Up Operation (2019-05-18)

On Saturday Tygerdal, Monte Vista and PWP Neighbourhood Watches got together ONCE AGAIN with Solid Waste Management, PRASA and DPU for a clean-up operation.

This time we were so bitterly disappointed when we saw what was waiting for us. Within TWO WEEKS, human faeces, rotting food, bags of wet clothes and piles of rubbish were once again piled up all over the place.

We have begged and pleaded on bended knees for members of our community to please work with us and we’ve now come to the realisation that nobody is listening because nobody sees the situation for what it really is.

Disappointment aside, let’s try once more because the minute we give up and stop cleaning up the disgusting mess that poses such a huge health and safety issue for every single person living in this area – that is the minute we are handing our life blood over on a silver platter.

So… residents can we please ask that you let us know who can join us on a clean-up operation that we will organize with Solid Waste in order to get rid of the excrement and other health hazards currently lying rotting in our area.

If you can’t join us, then please stop giving to each and every vagrant knocking on your door for help. Give to the shelters where the Winter Readiness Program is ready to help take these vagrants off the streets and into warm and safe spaces this winter. The ONLY vagrant who does NOT want to go into a shelter is the vagrant who wants to carry on using drugs, carries on drinking and refuses to comply with social norms.

THAT is unfortunately what you are supporting.

There are things in place to help the homeless and we need to get them to those places so that the system can kick in and start helping them. Please don’t be the person who is busy condemning them to a life of vagrancy because of some misguided notion that you are making a difference.

BE the difference you want to see in this world by supporting the shelters who aim to uplift and not keep them down like your handout will. Handup at all times please – not handout.

? Make yourself available for a clean up operation on a Saturday morning. Bring gloves and bags and help us make a difference.

To those who keep on coming out every second Saturday to help, please don’t lose heart and please lets keep on trying – hopefully the message will one day finally be heard and understood. Lets stand strong because you are literally the only thing stopping our beautiful area from falling into decay.

Thank you for the muffins Clinton and Riana and huge thank you to Chris Faure from Engen for the much needed donation of Coffee for the hard workers who pushed up their sleeves to helped with the clean-up. Our eternal thanks also to Skipgo for the much needed assistance in carting away all the piles and piles of rubbish! Together we can make a difference.

We’ve seem a massive spike in crime since yesterday.

4 x car break-ins in Panorama, nothing stolen. (early morning hours)
1 x gate motor stolen in Plattekloof (early morning hours)
1 x phone stolen in Plattekloof (was recovered, suspect got away)

Please ensure that no valuables are left in your car overnight.

The quick response from PWP, MVNW, Tygerdal NW, BNW, ENW, AR companies and the SAPS flying squad resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle just after 17:00 today.

Vehicle recovered and occupant detained, all within 20 min of receiving the alert of the vehicle entering our area.

Great team work. Well done all.
